Our approach to women’s trauma, recovery, and empowerment
The Women’s Recovery approach to treatment is less rigid than some traditional treatment models. We believe that getting curious about the roots of your addiction, instead of judging it, is the key to transformation. We help our clients set challenging goals for themselves, based on what they truly want out of life, and then help them push toward those goals. Resilience and skills development are essential to breaking free of substances that hold you back.
We ask questions about the underlying emotional wounds that fuel substance use and utilize evidence-based therapies to equip our clients with the tools they’ll need to live a sober life.
Since trauma is common among women with substance use disorders—in fact, up to 80% of women in addiction treatment report a history of trauma. (1) A trauma-informed approach is foundational to the therapies we offer:
- Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR): Through guided sessions that involve bilateral stimulation, clients revisit distressing memories in a safe, controlled environment, allowing their brain to reprocess and heal.
- Trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT): A methodology that helps clients develop new ways of thinking and responding through skill-building and reframing harmful thinking patterns.
- Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT): An empowering approach that helps women clarify their personal values and commit to changes that support those values.
- Motivational interviewing (MI): A client-centered approach that strengthens your motivation to change. Through collaborative conversations, clients explore ambivalence and internal motivation to pursue recovery.
- Relapse prevention therapy: Practical tools to help our clients manage triggers, develop coping strategies, and build confidence for their next step in life.
- Neurofeedback therapy: A brain-based technique that promotes emotional regulation and nervous system balance. Neurofeedback can be especially helpful for women struggling with anxiety, PTSD, or emotional dysregulation resulting from trauma.
- Mindfulness and somatic work: This includes yoga, breath work, and grounding techniques. Trauma can cause disconnection from the body, but these practices restore a sense of presence and control.
- Group therapy: In all-female groups, women can speak openly about issues like abuse, self-esteem, motherhood, or shame without fear of judgment. A sense of connection is found between a community of women, and future network opportunities are formed.
We also provide dual diagnosis support for women experiencing mental health conditions such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or eating disorders. Our all-female counseling staff has the certifications, years of experience, and lived experiences to equip you for sustained sobriety.
